No one owns a Chevy Volt yet, but that hasn't stopped General Motors from launching a Website for Volt owners.
Right now MyVolt.com is less a Volt site than it is a Chevy site. All four of the home pages' drop-down menus - "Vehicles," "Pricing & Offers," "Experience Chevy" and "Owners" - have next to nothing to do with the upcoming plug-in hybrid and everything to do with other Chevy products.
But the rest of the site is designed for Volt owners to converse with one another and to be able to sync with their automobiles via the Internet. Once synced, owners can check their vehicles' battery level, get their current EV range and total range in miles, and update their Charge Mode settings.
They can get real-time efficiency data on their cars in three useful views - the last 7 days, the last 30 days and lifetime - plus more detailed reports on everything from overall gas consumption to total kilowatt-hour usage.
There is also a variety of commands that the owner can perform, provided he or she remembers his or her username and password. For example, there are door-lock and door-unlock functions, as well as a button to remote-start the Volt.
There's also a "horns and light" button. Forgot where you parked? Click this button (presumably on your smartphone) and your car's lights and horn will come on.
A good bit of the rest of the site right now is devoted to trying to sell GM's Onstar service. The site will likely offer Volt owners lots of good resources once the car is on the market and owners are able to communicate via various forum pages.
