During this morning's second quarter earnings call General Motors Chairman and CEO Ed Whitacre announced his departure. According to the former AT&T CEO he will be stepping down as CEO on September 1st and stepping down as Chairman of the Board on December 31st.
It was announced that current GM board member Dan Akerson will be replacing Whitacre as CEO. Akerson joined the GM board in September of 2009. He is the former managing director of Carlyle, former CEO of Nextel Corporation and former COO of MCI WorldCo
