Dealer Satisfaction
« on: May 06, 2008, 07:26:55 AM »
What do you do when you have had a bad experience with a dealer or heard things about a dealer and you don't want to go there? The best advice is move on to another dealer, one that has a positive reputation. I hate to think that people are not buying GM vehicles because they want to avoid a dealership. They are missing out on a huge selection of fantastic products of GM because of a dealership. I am going to research and try to find out and post the information where complaints can be lodged against dealerships. Stay tuned for an update.

Here's a story:  Back in 1994, I was 22 years old, 1 year out of college and working for the MTO in Thunder Bay making $40k/year.  I was in the market for a new S10 4x4 so I visited one of the local GM dealerships (there were 2 in town).  I had studied the different option packages available through the website, and was looking for a quote on a custom ordered unit since they didn't have what I wanted on the lot.  First bad sign; none of the salespeople approached me when I wandering in the show room.  I actually had to go up to one and ask for help...older fella maybe in his late 50s.  I asked him to price me a custom order for an 4x4 S10.  He gave me all kinds of resistance, obviously because he was struggling on how to use that big ass book they use to use for this purpose.  Then he started telling me I couldn't get this and that together, etc etc.  So I told him, thanks for not helping me, and I left.  I went home and wrote a detailed email to GM head office about my experience.  The next morning, not even 10 hours after my email was sent, the manager of the dealer called me apologizing for my experience and asked me to come down for a coffee and he would work with me to get what I wanted.

It's unfortunate I had to go that route, but I feel it needed to be done.  By the way, I didn't see that salesman there when I went the next day.  ;D

Had a question on this site from a member and I didn't know the answer, so I called Niagara Motors Parts Department. Spoke to Eddie who was very helpful even though he knew the question came from someone out in British Columbia who would not be buying the parts from them. Great Service!

The closest dealer to me is 400km away and because they are the only GM game in town I think they take advantage of it. When I bought my truck I needed it for work at the time and I needed one ASAP. I told the guy what I wanted he said they had 3 of them. So I go down there the next day and he already has all the paper work on one all done up. He tells me the other 2 are sold. I asked him to deal and they wouldn't at all. He knew he had me cuz I needed the truck that day. I asked him could you at least throw in a winterfront cuz its -45c out and I have to drive it home and they wouldn't even do that! I almost walked out & probably should have. 1 month later I stopped by there and the other 2 trucks were still on the lot! As far as warranty service goes they suck. Have to book 2 weeks in advance and twice I drove down for the appointment only to be told "You aren't in the system" I never go there anymore instead I go to Edmonton's Stedelbauers GM (1200km away) where they always do good service. Stedelbauers fixed a steering column issue for 75$ when Murrays (who actually caused the problem and denied it) gave me an estimate for $1400. Stedelbauer actually told me whoever at Murrays worked on it put everything together inside out upside down and backwards.  I could go on but I guess some dealers are really good and some are really bad.
